Red Aventurine is from India and is a form of quartz, characterized by its translucency and the presence of platy mineral inclusions that give a shimmering or glistening effect termed "aventurescence." Red Aventurine gets its red color from hematite inclusion. 

Pieces average 0.75 - 1.5 inches in size. Mohs hardness of 6.5 - 7.
